Sage Clinic - Leah Hassall, ND

Service Provider in Victoria, British Columbia

Optimal health and wellness is a continuous journey. Navigating that journey requires a guide that is wise, knowledgeable, creative, compassionate and above all, listens to you and honours your experiences. In my own struggles with celiac disease, allergies and skin concerns, I have learned to seek out those practitioners and now strive to embody those traits when caring for my own patients. I want to give my patients the best care possible by continuously advocating for them, collaborating with their healthcare team and using evidence-based integrative medicine.

I focus my practice on the treatment of autoimmune disease, skin conditions (acne, eczema, rosacea and psoriasis), hormones and IBS/gastrointestinal disorders. I have additional training and dedicate my study and research to the connection between our skin, our brain, our immune system, our intestinal system and its microbiome. I test and treat people for the root of many of these concerns: an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine (SIBO). Inflammation in the small intestine leads to bloating, gas, diarrhea and/or constipation and disruption of the integrity of the lining of the intestines, also known as intestinal permeability. When this happens, we see an over-excited immune system. This looks like allergies, eczema and autoimmune disorders. Click here for a video of me describing the testing and treatment of IBS/SIBO. I love hearing patients say that their digestion is amazing for the first time in years, their skin is starting to clear-up and that they have more energy than ever before. In addition to treating many patients with this condition, I am also the Sage Clinic SIBO Lab consultant for physicians and their patients and do speaking events on SIBO for physicians.
