Thousand Islands Watershed Land Trust (TIWLT)

The Canadian Thousand Islands Heritage Conservancy (CTIHC) became the TIWLT in 2007 and was incorporated formally as a new land trust under a federal charter. Formed in 1993 by local citizens concerned with land preservation and cultural heritage values in the Canadian St. Lawrence River valley, the CTIHC evolved to expand geographically and it focus increasingly on the preservation of greenspace lands, including small islands in the St. Lawrence.

The present TIWLT, operates within a with a roughly triangular area bounded by Brockville on the east, Gananoque on the west and Westport on the north. Because CTIHC spearheaded the successful efforts to establish the UNESCO - designated Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve (FABR) in 2003 there has always been a close relationship been a close relationship between the two organizations.
