The standard provides direction to manufacturers in the areas of materials, energy and atmosphere, human and ecosystem health, and corporate social responsibility. Third party certification (called level) is based on an audit of the corporation, the manufacturing site, and the specific products, making it a very comprehensive certification. The standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute Ð ANSI Ð in 2010, giving it recognition as a national standard.
