Galiano Island Recycling and Resources Society

The Galiano Island Recycling Resources Society was incorporated in July of 1992 to manage and recycle Galiano Island's waste through reuse, reduction and recovery of recyclable materials. With a small staff and dedicated volunteers GIRR not only provides an equivalent blue box service to the island, but also periodically organizes hazardous waste and E-waste recycling oportunities. GIRR diverts more than 100 tonnes from the landfill each year. This waste is reused for road construction, plastic manufacturing, drink bottles, newspapers and many other useful items - saving natural resources by reusing old products to make new products.
