Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc.

Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc.'s roots go back to 1917. In that year, Albert Elia, a Niagara Falls, New York architect, began a general construction business. In the 1940's, Elia's four sons joined the business and incorporated it as the Albert Elia Building Company, Inc. Although the company initially specialized in residential building construction, in the early 1950's it expanded into industrial, institutional and heavy civil construction work. Eventually the Albert Elia Building Company, Inc. grew into one of New York State's largest general contractors. In the 1970's the third generation of the Elia family joined the company. In 1982 the third generation acquired the business from their fathers and renamed it Sevenson Construction Corp. In 1988, to reflect the company's transition to a full-service environmental cleanup contractor, the company's name was again changed to Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. The company's initiation into environmental remediation work occurred in 1979. In that year the Albert Elia Building Co., Inc. was selected as the principal contractor for cleanup work at the Love Canal Site. The company's success at the Love Canal project led to other cleanup projects. In the 1980's, the company, which was then operating under the Sevenson name, built a national reputation for reliability and competence in the emerging field of environmental remediation. Today, Sevenson Environmental is well established as one of the country's leading environmental cleanup contractors with over 1,400 projects with a combined value of over $3.8 billion successfully completed.
