Hyder read medicine at the prestigious Royal Free and University College London Medical School where he graduated with distinction (MB BS). He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Developmental Biology (First class Honours).

After completing his basic surgical training he undertook specialist plastic surgery training in the East of England deanery, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
