Roaster and Oregon-native, Joey Gleason opened Marigold Coffee in July of 2009. Joey has been a part of the Portland food scene for more 15 years, first as a chef and later as a cafe owner, but she really found her calling as a roaster at the beloved Redwing Cafe in SW Portland. What does she love most about her work? The hunt for high quality and unusual bean varietals and then making those beans sing by executing a perfect roast. Joey also takes pride in focusing on business practices that directly benefit the growers. Shes picky about selecting growers who use sustainable practices and as a guiding principle, she purchases from co-ops or small farms. Why? Because Gleason herself comes from a long line of farmers, with her familys farm still in operation four generations after her great-grandfather tilled his first field 95 years ago.
