PLAYN Eyewear

PLAYN is the brainchild of designer Denis Beyer and entrepreneur Jonas Koblin, two school friends from Munich. Both started first working together during high-school when they started the non-profit We Do e.V., organizing charity hip-hop parties under the label Ostasinn Jam. At the age of 24 they relocated to Bangkok to look for new challenges. And with big bag full of funky sunglasses from one of their sponsors at the charity events, they started a distribution business for designer frames. In 2004 they then opened Niche Nation, a popular eyewear boutique and in 2007 a design department to develop shapes and shades for international fashion brands. In 2011 and by pure chance, the two met the German lens-lover and optometrist Pit Marx, who just set up a lab in Thailand to service his league of high-end opticians in Germany. Immediately sizing the opportunity to do something remarkable with such a lucky constellation, they decided to start their own brand. In 2012 Phanida Chimsamran, aka Dao, moved back from Germany to Thailand to join getting PLAYN off the ground and in July 2013 we launched PLAYN at Boxpark Shoreditch in London with the superb support of the Alshibaya Sisters, Lisa and Tess.
