Dr. Sharon Gurm is a licensed and board-certified Naturopathic Physician-Oncologist. Her academic journey began in at the University of British Columbia(UBC), where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cell Biology & Genetics while playing field hockey on the elite UBC varsity team. While still attending university, Dr. Gurm began a 5-year research associate position at the BC Cancer Agency where she and her team investigated a novel and non-invasive method for the early detection of primary and recurrent head and neck cancers. During her time at the BCCA, she was mentored by Dr. Joel Epstein DMD, MSD, FRCD(C), FDS RCSE (Oral Pathology & Medicine) and Dr. John Hay (Medical Oncologist).

In 2001, Dr. Gurm attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). In 2005, she graduated with her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and thereafter completed a Fellowship with the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO) to become a Board-Certified Naturopathic Oncologist. Dr. Gurm holds additional board certifications in Prolotherapy (University of Wisconsin), Intravenous Vitamin &Chelation Therapies, Oxidative Therapies, and Acupuncture. She is also certified inMyofascial (Neural) Therapy and holds Prescribing Authority in BC.

In 2014, Dr. Gurm was the first ND to be invited to join the BC Diabetes Team at Vancouver General Hospital. She is pleased to be a part of their progressive mission and multi-disciplinary approach for the treatment and management of diabetes – a disease that is closely linked the development and progression of cancer. In 2006, with a vision to advance the field of medicine to its highest standard, Dr. Gurm founded Port Moody Health – Centre for Integrative Medicine & Cancer Care. She has successfully established a unique model of patient-centered integrative healthcare, with expert physicians and medical staff working collaboratively to provide the best in personalized and comprehensive care in an environment that blends conventional medicine and evidence-informed naturopathic medicine – guided by a whole-person approach that respects the values and beliefs of the individual patient.

In her pursuit of excellence in medicine, Dr. Gurm has had the privilege of training with renowned physicians and brilliant researchers – both locally, and abroad in places such as Germany. She regularly attends cancer conferences around the globe, to keep pace with current trends in oncology. Over the years, Dr. Gurm and her clinic have been gaining worldwide attention for their progressive and innovative cancer care treatments – such as Oncothermia and Intravenous DCA – attracting patients from all over the globe for treatment of several types of cancer at various stages of the disease.

As a leader in the field of integrative oncology, Dr. Gurm is frequently invited to present educational lectures to physicians, allied health care practitioners and the public.As a clinical professor at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr.Gurm teaches medical students conventional and integrative oncology. In November 2015, Dr. Gurm was invited to speak to medical professionals on Evidence-Informed Management of Breast & Ovarian Cancer at the Advances in Women’s Health Symposium in Vancouver. In 2013, Dr. Gurm was invited to present on the topic of breast cancer at the inaugural conference for the Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta. Her lecture is available for download here. Other notable speaking engagements include co-presenting at The Breast Event in the Tri-Cities conference with Dr. Divi Chandna, MD, andDr. Carolyn Gotay, PhD (UBC) for Re-think Breast Cancer and 2014-2015 keynote speaker at the Health Action Network Society’s (HANS) Annual Cancer Prevention & Healing Event. Dr. Gurm‘s publications are frequently found in various mainstream and professional print media and journals.

Dr. Gurm provides educational videos on integrative oncology for Health Choices First, an online library for medical professionals and the general public to educate on evidence-based health care. In 2013, Dr. Gurm was also a guest on the Five-To-Thrive radio show, discussing the role of breast density in the development and recurrence of breast cancer. In 2014, Dr. Gurm was a guest on The Survive & Live Well radio show radio show, discussing the clinical application of Oncothermia (Hyperthermia) as a complementary treatment for cancer.

As a dedicated working mother and wife, Dr. Gurm lives by the core wisdom she shares with all her patients: “Make health a way of life. Not just if and when disease may strike, but every single day.” She maintains health and balance with a nutritious diet and a lifestyle of daily exercise and meditation. Her favorite activities include yoga, Pilates, running and resistance training. Dr. Gurm nurtures her deeply valued and loving relationships with friends, family, and nature, and engages in a daily practice of stillness to cultivate presence, oneness, and unity consciousness.
