Air North

Air North, Yukon’s Airline, celebrated their 40th anniversary on Feb. 1, 2017. The airline was founded in 1977, by Joe Sparling and Tom Wood, offering charter flights to the mining and tourism industry, in addition to flight training services – but it didn’t take long to grow beyond that original vision. Today, Air North employs over 600 people providing Boeing 737 jet service between Whitehorse and Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife and Ottawa; and turboprop passenger service from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Inuvik and Old Crow. Air North (YVR) measured their emissions with Climate Smart for the 2016 calendar year. The company is working to reduce their emissions by reducing electricity use, investigating the potential for electrifying ground equipment and reducing hot water and paper use. Air North (YVR location) is Climate Smart certified for 2017.
