Terrace Inn and 1911 Restaurant

Service Provider in Petoskey, Michigan

The Terrace Inn was built in 1910 and opened June 25, 1911.  The Inn is a Michigan Historic Landmark and a member of Bay View Association, located in Bay View, Petoskey, Michigan.  A group of Methodists from Jackson, Michigan chose Bay View for a tent camp in 1875 and the Victorian cottages see today were built by the 1880s. established in 1875 by a group of Methodists from Jackson, Michigan.   Hotel amenities in 1911 touted indoor plumbing, "hot food served hot and cold food served cold", electricity and call bells.  Early documents stated electricity was turned off at sundown and "late stay-uppers" took kerosene lamps to their room. Today the Inn has a sprinkler system throughout so guests can enjoy a worry-free stay! Bay View Association programs and resident cottages are open May to November. The exception is the administrative offices and hotels. This ensures the integrity of the programs and allows guests to experience the area in fall and winter months.

The Terrace Inn has 38 rooms, ranging from cozy “cottage” rooms, our most authentic and least expensive to King Whirlpool suites with kitchenettes and jetted tubs. All rooms have a private bath, cable TV, WiFi, and include breakfast and daily maid service.

The former Tea Room was converted to a pet-friendly Apartment referred to as our Garden Apartment. On the lowest level, it has a private entrance with French doors and has a fully furnished kitchen and sleeps up to 4.

Please understand in advance the Inn does not have an elevator.  If you have a second or third-floor room we are happy to help with luggage.

November through February the 1911 Restaurant is open most weekends Friday and Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m.  In January and February, sleigh rides are offered to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the half hour.  Adults are $10 and Children $5. (Sleigh rides are weather dependent).  Reservations for dinner and sleigh ride are suggested.  New Year's Eve and Valentines are celebrated with Dinner and Live Entertainment.  A winter stay is an entirely different experience as Bay View is closed and roads are left un-plowed creating a magical fairyland. Guests can cross-country ski and snowshoe throughout Bay View and a beautiful ice skating rink is a half mile away in Winter Park.
