Caravan Coffee

More than 20 years ago I bought an old Cape Cod house down the street from George Fox University. At the time I had no idea that a little caf in my garage would take me around the world and bring the world of coffee to my community. I moved my family into that old house and setup one of the first coffee shops in northwest Oregon. I opened in the 1990?s, before it was hip to carry around a premium cup of coffee, much less open a coffee shop. The community loved it and my garage quickly became a meeting place for coffee lovers ranging from college students to retirees. The coffee drew them in but the bakery, bookstore and live music kept them coming back. As I learned more about coffee I began to realize that I could make a difference, both in my community and for the communities that grew our coffee. I began developing relationships in what is known as as the Coffee Belt, the regions that produce the worlds best coffee mostly developing nations. Its through those relationships that Ive brought some of the finest coffees in the world to my roastery. Im also proud to say that I give back to those communities that grow our coffee projects that range from fresh water supply to a community band. Seeing the impact of our efforts, Ive adopted a set of standards that we abide by when we purchase any of our coffees. Our standards benefit the communities that provide the coffee and the community that drinks it. Our sourcing includes Fair Trade Coffee that ensures ethical trade practices with farmers, and Organic coffee that offers our customers a cup of coffee free of chemically treated beans.
