In 1997 a partnership between two self-employed individuals, Barry Thiessen and Tim Kasten formed and Hillside Contracting was born. Between 1997 and today, Hillside Contracting has built over 100+ homes in the Kamloops region and has always forged ahead with the insight to educate both consumes and up and coming carpenters. A proud member of Built Green(TM) BC, Hillside Contracting was the first certified builder to construct a Built Green home in the Kamloops area, paving the way for the building community to follow. One reason for their success may be because Barry always tells their trades to “build it as if you’re gonna live in it” and their focus on up and coming technology. Barry Thiessen, now operating Hillside Contracting unaccompanied, is more active than ever within the Kamloops community. Contributing the numerous charities such as Developing World Connections, the Kidney Walk, Kamloops Minor Hockey Association to name a few, Barry believes that giving back to the community that supports his business is of the utmost importance. Hillside Contracting is also very actively involved in the local chapter of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (www.chbaci,ca). Not only was Hillside Contracting was the proud Project Manager of the 2008 CHBA/TRU Training House/YMCA Dream Home, they also pride themselves on hiring the top preforming pre-apprentices from the TRU Trades and Technology pre-apprentice program and offering them training throughout their apprenticeship and beyond. As a construction company building in Kamloops and surrounding areas and they are strong advocates of the apprenticeship program teaching passionate individuals the art of combining skills with innovation, hard work, responsibility and respect, as well as the importance of continually striving to learn and improve.
