Yume — a social enterprise with a mission to prevent edible food from going to waste — wants to tell the Australian food industry that it’s here to help. Connecting food suppliers with surplus stock in real time, Yume’s platform is host to 2500+ registered business buyers who are looking to purchase food products.

“COVID-19 is having a severe impact on the Australian food industry,” Yume CEO and Founder Katy Barfield said.

“We have been approached by large and small manufacturers who have suddenly been left with large consignments of surplus food due to events being cancelled, changes in the export market and overall shift in their normal operations.

“We are standing by to help connect these food suppliers with new business buyers outside of their usual network who might want to purchase that surplus stock and provide a much needed return to Aussie businesses.

“Yume’s mission is to prevent high-quality, edible food from going to waste, so today, more than ever, we want to offer our help,” she said.

Barfield said the situation is moving rapidly and Yume wants to ensure that edible food doesn’t end up in landfill.

“One supplier just listed a huge amount of chicken on the Yume platform and this will differ from what you will see in the supermarkets, because we work in commercial volumes, not retail sizing.

“We want businesses to know we are here, fully equipped, and that we can give visibility to their overstock, which they may even get a return on.”
